how to choose a significator
In many spreads, the first thing asked of the reader is to choose a "significator", or a card that represents the
querent or questioner in the reading. Sometimes, this card is placed in the center of the reading (as in the readings
presented here), or sometimes it is shuffled back into the deck in an attempt to see where the significator card
turns up in the reading.
At any rate, the choice of significator can be based on two things: What you know about the querent, which entails
selecting a card that represents those qualities about which you know; or selection based on physical
characteristics. Look to the meanings of the cards if you wish to use the first; look below if you are reading for a
stranger.
In general:
Pages: Youth, either male or female. Unmarried female.
Knights: Young men, unmarried.
Queens: Married Women or Widows.
Kings: Married men, or widowers.
Wands: Blonde hair, fair skin, pale eyes or a combo of the above.
Cups: Light brown hair, light skin, light eyes.
Swords: Brown hair, medium skin, brown or dark eyes.
Pentacles: Dark hair, medium to dark skin, dark eyes.
For Example: JoAnn is a 36-year-old married woman, of scandinavian descent, with traditionally blonde hair and
blue eyes. From her age, and marital status, you would select a QUEEN. From the coloring, you would select
WANDS. Her Significator would be the QUEEN of WANDS.
