What is a file server? A file server, or fserve, allows you to share your files with other users. It is a DCC (Direct Client to Client) session that actually allows another user to access your hard drive and gives the ability to download files from it. It DOES NOT allow a user to upload files!! Instructions on using an FSERVER Note: These instructions are intended for use with mIRC only. If you use a different IRC client program (i.e. Netscape Chat, PIRCH, etc.), dump it and get mIRC. 1. To access an Fserve, you have to signal it. To do this, most have a trigger (i.e. !Fserve). Type this in the Channel window. Another way to access it may use a CTCP command like this: /CTCP Fserve Where is the nick of the person running the fserve. If the Fserve doesn't respond right away, please wait, it could be lagged. No one likes it when you repeat the trigger 4 or 5 times. It doesn't make it connect any faster!!! 2. Once the Fserve opens (It will be in a Chat type window), you have a number of commands that allow you to negotiate the directories and get files from it. 3. There is a limit to the number of files you can download simultaneously, watch for gets that don't start. 4. Use your Netequette! Don't flood by repeating yourself, upload files, and type exit when you're ready to leave! Fserve Commands: HELP - Gives you a list of these commands LS or DIR - Lists the files and subdirectories in the current directory CD - Changes the directory to one of the subdirectories. (Replace with a directory name) CD.. - Changes the directory to the Parent directory. (One level up) GET - Gets a file from the current directory. (Replace with the file you want, don't forget the extention) READ - Will display the contents of the file in your fserve window. (Use this one only with text files) EXIT - Closes the fserver Make sure you send something back to the person that was kind enough to open his/her file server to you. They're building a collection too. Most of all, relax, have fun, and enjoy the pics/mpg/wav. You're already horney, so don't let the fserver make you even more frustrated. Again, these instructions are intended for use with mIRC ONLY! If you are using a different client program, you're on your own. Enjoy!!
