Channel Service Frequently Asked Questions Introduction: This FAQ is an attempt to answer burning questions for any and all users about the Undernet Channel Service. 1 - What is the Undernet Channel Service? The Undernet Channel Service (UCS) is a service created by Seks which functions as a bot on a channel. It can carry a userlist, ensure that the channel will not be taken over by other users, and it ensures that the channel remains open to any and all users 24 hours a day. 2 - How does this differ from any other bot? The UCS bot X, has oper privilages that most bots don't. It has access to Uworld, so it may get ops for itself on any channel it wishes. Also X is allowed to be on as many channels as it wishes. 3 - Well I can get ops too on a netsplit. No you can't. Because of the Tspree patch on the Undernet, you cannot get ops on a netsplit. On any netsplit/rejoin X will always get ops over you and X will always win on a nick collision. 4 - Ok, so how do I get X on to a channel? There is an application process that must be taken that is outlined in the Channel Service Guidelines which you can get via ftp from ftp.undernet.org in /pub/irc/docs. There is also an application form for new channels that is included that in that document or can be recieved from X on Undernet by typing: /msg X help info 5 - What is this process? Once you have filled in an application and sent it in to the Channel Service Committee (CSC). The CSC will review it and then add your channel to X. The CSC can be reached at cservice@undernet.org. 6 - How can I join the CSC? To join the CSC mailing list, send mail to majordomo@undernet.org with the body of the message containing: subscribe cservice user@host Replace the user@host name with your e-mail address. 7 - How can I complain about X being on a channel? Any complaints can be sent to the CSC by sending mail to cservice@undernet.org. When sending in the complaint, please give the reason along with supporters that feel the same way that you do about this. 8 - What happens then? The CSC will review the application and the complaint to see if it is a reasonable complaint and if will be possible to negotiate a comprimise. If no comprimise is found, then X will be removed from the channel. 9 - I have my channel added, what now? If you have received a letter from the CSC stating that your channel has been added, you might want to reference the Channel Managers FAQ for more information. This document should be included with your conformation letter. 10 - What if I have other questions? Please contact the CSC by e-mail at cservice@undernet.org.
